Native Plants that flower in summer (June, July, or August)

	*Acer circinatum* Vine Maple Tall, erect, multi-trunked shrub or small tree with sprawling branches. Height: 13-26 feet (4-8 meters) Blooms May, Jun. Flowers grow in small loose clusters at the end of shoots. Flower sepals are purple and red, hairy and spreading; petals are creamy white with purple/red highlights. Flower size: 6-9 mm across.
	*Achillea millefolium* Yarrow Aromatic herb with delicate fern-like leaves and flat-topped clusters of white flowers. Height: 4 inches to 3 feet (10-100 cm). Blooms Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct. Flowers are arranged in flat-topped clusters 5-10 cm (2-4 in) across at stem tips. What appear to be single flowers within this cluster are actually tight heads of several tiny flowers, each head with 3-5 white ray flowers surrounding several yellow disk flowers; both ray and disk flowers produce seeds. The ray flowers are usually white but can also be pink or reddish. Flowers bloom later at higher elevations.
	*Achlys triphylla* Vanilla Leaf Grows low to the ground, spreading by rhizomes to form dense ground cover in shady areas. Height: To 12 inches (30 cm) tall. Blooms Mar, Apr, May, Jun. The flowers which lack sepals and petals have 8-20 long white stamens that form a showy white spike that is positioned above the center point of the leaves; spike size: 2-7 cm (.8-2.75 in) long by 1 cm thick.
	*Alisma plantago-aquatica* Broadleaf Water-Plantain A terminal cluster of small white flowers sits above a tall leafless stem. It grows in marshy or semi-aquatic environments. Height: up to 48 inches (120 cm). Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep. Whorls of small white (rarely pink) flowers are arranged in an open, branched, terminal cluster that sticks up well beyond the leaves. Flowers only open in the afternoon and evening. Flower size: 5 mm long.
	*Allium acuminatum* Taper-Tip Onion This native wild onion has grass-like basal leaves overtopped by umbels of purple flowers, and egg-shaped bulbs containing a fibrous network on the surface. Height: Up to 12 inches (30 cm). Blooms May, Jun, Jul, Aug. In umbels at stem tips. Each umbel consists of 7-25 flowers that grow from stalks (pedicels) arising from a common point and spread out like the spokes of an umbrella. The flowers are primarily rose-colored but occasionally white. A distinguishing characteristic of this plant is that the tepals (petals) turn back at the tips. The umbel has two bracts underneath.
	*Allium cernuum* Nodding Onion Clusters of long grass-like leaves overtopped by nodding umbels of pink flowers. Height: Up to 20 inches (50 cm). Blooms May, Jun. The pink to rose-purple, bell-shaped flowers are in umbrella shaped clusters with bracts below the umbel. The name nodding onion comes from the fact that the flower umbels bend over at the top of the stem and points downward toward the ground.
	*Anaphalis margaritacea* Pearly Everlasting Clump forming, perennial herb with small withering basal leaves and papery white flower clusters. Height: Up to 40 inches (100 cm). Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep. Flowers are very small with yellowish disk flowers surrounded by dry pearly white involucral bracts with dark triangular bases. The flowers which can be male or female appear in late summer. Flowers are in desne flat-topped clusters 15 cm (6 in) across.
	*Aquilegia formosa* Red Columbine Delicate perennial with large nodding, star-shaped, spurred flowers that are a favorite of hummingbirds. Height: Can grow up to 3 feet (1 meter) tall. Blooms May, Jun, Jul, Aug. Flowers have 5 long, straight red spurs with bulbous, glandular tips. Stamens and styles protrude from a central tuft. Each plant usually has 2-5 drooping flowers; primary color: red with yellow tinge.
	*Aruncus dioicus* Goat's Beard Tall perennial herb topped with large feathery clusters of white flowers, grows from rhizomes and has multiple stems. Height: Can grow up to 6.5 feet (2 meters) tall. Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Male and female flowers occur on separate plants. Flowers are densely packed in elongated terminal feathery clusters. Flower branchlets are spike-like. Each saucer-shaped flower is white to cream with petals to about 1 mm long.
	*Asarum caudatum* Wild Ginger Low-growing evergreen perennial that smells strongly of lemon-ginger when crushed. Height: Can grow up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. Blooms Apr, May, Jun. The solitary purplish-brown to greenish-yellow flowers occur on 1-3 cm long stalks near ground level and have 3 flaring sepal-like lobes that taper to long points and are fused at the base. Note: flowers are often concealed by leaves. Size: up to 5 cm across; shape: bell-shaped.
	*Aster chilensis* Common California Aster A slender, sprawling perennial that produces light purple flowers. Height: Can grow up to 3 ft. (100 cm.) Blooms Aug, Sep. Each flower has 15-40 lavender to white ray flowers that range from 5-15 mm long with numerous small yellow disk flowers in the center. Each composite flower head is cupped by a green involucral of bracts that are 5-7 mm high and mostly blunt at the tip. The ray flowers of this plant are often mistaken for petals. The center of the flower contains tiny, tubular disk flowers.
	*Aster ciliolatus* Lindley's Aster, Fringed Aster This aster usually has one, central flower stalk and several large, almost heart-shaped, basal leaves. Height: Grows from 1 to 4 feet (0.3 to 1.2 meters) tall. Blooms Jul. This plant produces numerous flower heads that have pointed-slender and smooth involucral bracts with sparsely firm-haired edges. Ciliolatus means hair-like. Primary color: ray flowers are blue-violet and disk flowers are reddish-purple (Clark, 528); size: flowers range from 1/2 to 1 inch across; Each head contains approximately 14 ray flowers and 20-35 disk flowers.
	*Aster modestus* Great Northern Aster A tall, much-branched perennial with numerous heads of purplish flowers. Height: Grows up to 40 inches (100 cm). Blooms Jul, Aug. Each flowerhead contains 20-45 very narrow ray flowers surrounding a center of numerous disk flowers. Ray flowers are violet or purple; disk flowers are yellow to greenish. Beneath the flowers are the involucres - narrowly lance-shaped, spotted bracts that range between 7-11 mm high. Note: The bracts have small glands.
	*Aster subspicatus* Douglas Aster Rhizomatous perennial wildflower with much-branched stems and light purple aster-like flower heads. Height: Grows up to 32 inches (80 cm). Blooms Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct. Ray flowers are blue to purple and disk flowers are yellow. Size: ray flowers are 1-2 cm long. A distinguishing characterisitic of Douglas aster is its thick overlapping bracts beneath each flower head. Also, outer margins of thegracts have a thin, transparent (waxy/papery) look.
	*Boykinia occidentalis* Slender Boykinia A slender herb with open panicles of small white flowers. Height: Up to 24 inches (60 cm). Blooms Jun. Numerous flowers in a much-branched inflorescence. Each flower is densely glandular and reddish, with five white, oblong to oval petals.
	*Brodiaea congesta* Harvest Lily Long slender stems to 3 feet (1 meter) in length topped by a dense cluster of deep purple flowers. Height: Up to 3 feet (1 meter) tall. Blooms May, Jun. Flowers appearing tight clusters at stem tips after the leave have withered. Primary color is deep purple; size: 4 cm (1.5 in).
	*Brodiaea hyacinthina* Fool's Onion, White Brodiaea Onion-like plant from an underground corm, with large clusters of white flowers at tip of stems. Height: 10-30 inches (25-70 cm). Blooms May, Jun, Aug. In large umbel at top of a slender stalk 25-70 cm (10-28 in) tall and surpassing leaves. 3-5 bracts below umbel are small and papery. Each braodly bell-shaped flower is white to light blue, with blue or green veins; size: 1-1.5 cm long.
	*Caltha biflora* Marsh Marigold Perennial herb with large white flowers held above broadly rounded leaves; grows in wet subalpine meadows. Height: 16 inches (40 cm). Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. 1-2 flowers emerging from a stem with one leaf. Flowers lack true petals but have 5-7 bright white sepals and many stamens. Fize: 1.5-4 cm (.6-1.5 in) across.
	*Caltha palustris* yellow marsh marigold Large yellow flowers top this creeping, perennial, semi-aquatic herb. Height: Up to 16 inches (40 cm). Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Usually two flowers per stem; each flower has 5-12 yellow sepals and numerous stamens. Flower size: 1.5-4 cm (0.6-2 in) wide.
	*Campanula rotundifolia* Harebell Delicate stems topped by large, nodding bell-shaped blue flowers. Height: 4-32 inches (10-80 cm). Blooms Jul, Aug. Large, nodding bell-shaped blue or purplish-blue flowers (rarely white); sepals hairy at fused base with awl-shaped lobes; 5 fused petals. Flowers single several on thin, wiry stalks atop stem. Size: 1.5-3 cm (.6-1 in) long.
	*Castilleja miniata* Red Paintbrush An attractive wildflower with red brush-like flower clusters. Height: 8-32 inches (20-80 cm). Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Inconspicuous greenish flowers are concealed by several, showy bright red/scarlet bracts; bracts are sharp pointed, toothed, and hairy; calyx lobes are sharp pointed. Flower shape: tubular.
	*Ceanothus velutinus* Snowbrush A tall shrub with glossy leaves and clusters of white flowers. Height: Up to 10 feet (3 meters). Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Flowers are arranged in pyramidal clusters 5-12 cm long along the length of side branches. EAch flower is tiny, white.
	*Cerastium arvense* Field Chickweed Blooms Apr, May, Jun, Jul. Flower color: white.
	*Clarkia amoena* Farewell to Spring A taprooted annual with large showy, usually pink flowers; often grown horticulturally. Height: 4 inches to 3 feet (10-100 cm). Blooms May, Jun. Few to many flowers in loose, leafy-bracted clusters. Each flower has four petals, dark spotted in the center, 1-4 cm long, and 8 stamens. Primary color: pink to rose-purple; size: 6 cm (2.5 in) across.
	*Cornus stolonifera* Red-osier Dogwood Spreading, thicket-forming shrub with bright red stems. Height: Up to 20 feet (6 meters). Blooms Apr, May, Jun. The tiny flowers have 4 petals and 4 stamens; numerous in dense, flat-topped terminal clusters; primary color: white to greenish; size: 2-4 mm long.
	*Cornus unalaschkensis* Bunchberry Low, trailing, rhizomatous perennial with white flowers. Height: Up to 10 inches (25 cm). Blooms May, Jun. What looks like a single large flower is actually four white bracts with a small cluster of greenish-white flowers in the center. Each flower has 4 sepals, 4 stamens, 4 petals. May bloom twice (late spring and again in late summer). Size: 2.5 cm (1 in) across (including bracts).
	*Deschampsia cespitosa* Tufted Hairgrass Densely tufted perennial grass. Height: Up to 4 feet (120 cm) tall. Blooms Jun. Many minute flowers in an open, loose panicle 8-35 cm long, often nodding, silky. Spikelets bronze and glistening, usually darkening at maturity, 2-3 flowered. Lemmas thin (4mm long), hairy at base, awned from near base.
	*Dicentra formosa* Bleeding Heart Hairless, soft stems and light green lacy leaves overtopped by small nodding clusters of pink heart-shaped flowers. Height: Up to 1.5 feet (50 cm). Blooms Mar, Apr, May, Jun. Pink to purplish heart shaped at base with 4 petals, outer 2 petals with short sac-like spur and spreading tip. 5-15 in drooping clusters atop stem.
	*Epilobium angustifolium* Fireweed Tall perennial from rhizome like roots with unbranched stem and terminal spikes of large red to pink flowers. Height: Up to 10 feet (3 meters), but usually shorter than 6 feet (2 meters). Blooms May, Jun. Stalked, sepals 4, petals 4, stigma 4 lobed; several to many (15+) in long cluster atop stem; primary color: pink to red/purple; size: 2-4 cm (0.8-1.5 in) wide.
	*Epilobium brachycarpum* Tall Annual Willowherb Taprooted annual of dry, gravelly or disturbed sites. Height: 1-4 feet (30-120 cm) tall. Blooms Aug. Open panicles of flowers; primary color: pink or white; size: 0.25-0.5 in (3-12 mm).
	*Epilobium watsonii* Watson's Willowherb Erect herbaceous perennial with opposite leaves. Height: Up to 5 feet (150 cm). Blooms May, Jun. White pink or rose purple, small; few to numerous in erect, leafy-bracted clusters atop stem. Primary color: white to pink to purple.
	*Erigeron philadelphicus* Philadelphia Fleabane Short-lived perennial with erect stem-base and taproot or fibrous roots. Height: Up to 2.25 feet (70 cm). Blooms Jun. Numerous very narrow ray flowers; disk flowers yellow, involucres 4-6 mm high, bracts lance-oblong, with broad, clear margins, hairy on midvein or hairless; heads few to many; primary color: Ray flowers pink to purple to white; size: 2-3 cm (.8-1 in) wide; shape: disk shaped.
	*Eriophyllum lanatum* Woolly Sunflower Wooly leafy perennial with yellow daisy-like flowers. Height: Up to 2 feet (60 cm). Blooms Apr, May, Jun. Daisy-like. Ray flowers 8-13, yellow, 1-2 cm long. Disk flowers yellow. Involucre 9-12 mm high, the bracts firm, erect, embracing the ray achenes. Heads single on long stalks; size: 3-5 cm (1-2 in) across.
	*Festuca rubra* Red Fescue Perennial grass with thread-like leaves forming small patches. Height: Can grow up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. Blooms Jun. Violet-colored panicles on purple stems; each spikelet 3/8-1/2" long.
	*Fragaria chiloensis* Coastal Strawberry Spreads low across ground with runners. White flowers and small red strawberries. Height: Up to 10 inches (25 cm). Blooms Apr, May, Jun. 5-7 white petals; each plant has 5-9 flowers on leafless flowering stalks to 30 cm (12 in) tall; flower size: 3.5 cm (1.5 in) across.
	*Fragaria vesca* Woodland strawberry A wild strawberry with thin leaves, low, short runners, white flowers, and small red strawberries. Height: Up to 10 inches (25 cm). Blooms Apr, May, Jun. 5-7 petals; each plant has 5-9 flowers on leafless flowering stalks to 30 cm tall; primary color: white-pink; size: 3.5 cm (1.5 in) across.
	*Fragaria virginiana* Wild strawberry Low growing wild strawberry with runners, white flowers, and small red strawberries. Height: Up to 10 inches (25 cm). Blooms Apr, May, Jun, Jul. 5-7 white petals and a yellow center, leafless flowering stalk; size: 1.5 cm (.6 in) across.
	*Galium aparine* Cleavers, Bedstraw Blooms Apr, May, Jun. Flower color: white.
	*Galium trifidum* Small Bedstraw Sprawling perennial with numerous stems from slender rhizomes. Height: up to 28 inches (70 cm). Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep. Small whitish flowers in several to many clusters of 1-3 on long, narrow stalks from branch tips and axils of leaf whorls; size: 1-3 mm wide.
	*Gaultheria shallon* Salal Creeping to erect shrub with hairy branching stems and dark leathery leaves. Height: Up to 16 feet (5 meters) in exceptional cases but typically 3-7 feet (1-2 m) tall. Blooms May, Jun. Occur in racemes of 5-15 urn-shaped flowers, all oriented in same direction; primary color: white-pinkish; size: 7-10 mm long.
	*Geum macrophyllum* Large-leaved Avens Hairy perennial with short rhizomes and big leaves topped by small yellow flowers. Height: Up to 3 feet (1 meters). Blooms May, Jun. Saucer-shaped, petals to 6mm long, single or in a few-flowered cluster at the tips of the branches; primary color: bright-yellow.
	*Gilia capitata* Globe Gilia Upright taprooted annual with large ball-like heads of blue flowers. Height: Up to 3 feet (1 meter). Blooms Jun. Small, stalkless, and numerous in dense, bractless, ball-shaped heads at tips of stems and branches; primary color: light-blue; each flower is 6-10 mm long.
	*Glyceria elata* Tall Mannagrass, Fowl Mannagrass Tall wetland grass. Height: Up to 5 feet (1.5 meters). Blooms May, Jun, Jul. In a loose, open panicle with spreading branches 15-30 cm long; spikelets flattened, egg shaped outline, 6-8 flowered; glumes small, 1mm long or less; lemmas about 2 mm long, firm, prominently 7 veined.
	*Glyceria grandis* Reed Mannagrass very similar to G. elata Height: up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. inflorescence is 20-40 cm long, loose, open, with numerous spreading branches, stames occasionally number 2 but usually 3; lemmas has obvious veins, spikelets 4-7 flowered; primary color: purplish; size: lemmas 2-3 mm long.
	*Goodyera oblongifolia* Rattlesnake Plantain Evergreen orchid from short rhizomes with an unusual mottled leaf pattern. Height: Up to 1.5 feet (45 cm). Blooms Jul, Aug. Petals and 1 of the sepals form a hood over the lip; numerous in long, dense, downy, terminal spike with most flowers oriented to one side; primary color: dull-white to greenish; size: to 1 cm. Does not bloom every year.
	*Grindelia integrifolia* Entire-leaved Gumweed Seaside perennial with sticky heads of yellow flowers. Height: Can grow up to 32 inches (80 cm) in height. Blooms Jun. Flowe heads are hemispheric, with 10-35 yellow ray flowers and numerous yellow disk flowers; involucral bracts have sticky, glandular resin and long, slender spreading tips; size: ray: 8-20 mm long; disc head: 1-3 cm wide.
	*Helenium autumnale* Mountain Sneezeweed Blooms Aug, Sep. Flower color: yellow.
	*Heuchera micrantha* Small-flowered Alumroot Grows from rhizomes with one to many flower stems that are reddish and covered with fine hairs and topped with delicate panicles of tiny white flowers. Height: Up to 2 feet (60 cm). Blooms Apr, May, Jun. White to cream colored, small, numerous, on thin stalks in large open groups; 5 stamens.
	*Holodiscus discolor* Oceanspray Multi-stemmed upright shrub with ridged young stems and arching older stems with peeling bark. White flowers. Height: Up to 13 feet (4 meters). Blooms May, Jun. Flowers are in dense terminal pyramidal cluster, 10-17 cm long; 5 white petals, 20 stamens, mostly 5 pistils, ovary is two-ovuled; flower clusters turn brown and remain on plants over winter; primary color: white to cream; size: 5 mm across.
	*Hydrophyllum fendleri* Fendler's Waterleaf Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Flower color: white.
	*Iris tenax* Oregon Iris Clumped, perennial iris with large purple flowers. Height: Up to 16 inches (40 cm). Blooms May, Jun. Sepals and petals to 6 cm (2.5 in) long; 1-2 flowers on each flowering stems; primary color: blue to purple with yellow/white highlights.
	*Kalmia microphylla ssp. occidentalis* Bog Laurel Small, slender-branched shrub with dark green waxy leaves and clusters of bright pink flowers. Height: Up to 3 feet (1 meter). Blooms May, Jun. Several in loose, terminal clusters; 10 stamens, the tip of each tucked into a small pouch in a petal, and held under tension like a bow; the stamens pop out when stimulated by touch; primary color: pink to rose; size: 2 cm (.8 in) across; shape: saucer-shaped.
	*Ledum groenlandicum* Labrador Tea Evergreen, branching shrub with rusty-hairy leaf undersides and white flowers. Height: Up to 5 feet (1.5 meters). Blooms May, Jun, Jul. White, with protruding stamens, small; numerous, in short umbrella-like clusters; shape: saucer.
	*Lilium columbianum* Tiger Lily Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Flower color: orange.
	*Linnaea borealis* Twinflower Trailing, slender, semi-woody, with short erect leafy stems and dainty bell-shaped flowers. Height: 4 inches (10 cm). Blooms May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep. Fragrant trumpet-shaped nodding flowers born in pairs on a thin Y-shaped stalk; size: 2-5 mm.
	*Lonicera ciliosa* Orange Honeysuckle Climbing vine with clusters of tubular bright orange flowers. Height: Typically up to 20 feet (6 meters). Blooms May, Jun. Flowers narrowly trumpet-shaped flaring to 5 lobes, bright orange; in whorls above end-pair disks at stem tips; can become purple when drying; size: 2-4 cm (.8-1.5 in) long.
	*Lonicera hispidula* Hairy Honeysuckle Clamboring vine with clusters of light purple tubular flowers. Height: Up to 33 feet (10 meters) in trees. Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Tubular flowers 1-2 cm long, pinkish-purple or rarely almost white.
	*Lonicera involucrata* Twinberry Tall shrub with opposite leaves and pairs of small yellow flowers in leaf axils. Height: Up to 10 feet (3 meters tall). Blooms Apr, May, Jun, Jul. Tubular, yellow; in pairs with a greenish to maroon papery bract at base of each pair.
	*Luetkea pectinata* Partridgefoot Low-growing ground cover with spikes of small white flowers. Height: Up to 6 inches (3 cm) tall. Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. Numerous small white flowes in dense spikes held above the leaves. Each flower has 5 white petals, 20 stamens, and 5 pistils.
	*Lupinus polyphyllus* Large-leaved Lupine A large perennial native forb with spikes of blue flowers from one to many hairy stems. Height: 3-6 feet (1-2 meters). Blooms Jun. Shaped like a pea flower; flower stalks are short; primary color: bluish-purple, brown with age; vary from pale blue to dark violet or purple; occasionally all-white; arranged in spikes 12-28 inches long along upper section of main stem.
	*Maianthemum dilatatum* False Lily-of-the-Valley Quickly spreading ground cover with attractive glossy green leaves. Height: Up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall. Blooms Apr, May, Jun. The small delicate white flowers are grouped in short spikes held just above the leaves.
	*Mentha arvensis* Field Mint A wild mint with small groups of light purple flowers in the leaf axils. Blooms May, Jun, Jul, Aug. Flower color: purple.
	*Mimulus guttatus* Yellow Monkey-flower Large yellow tubular flowers top this deciduous-leaved wetland perennial. Blooms Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep. Flower color: yellow.
	*Mimulus lewisii* Pink Monkey-flower A clump forming perennial with large pinkish-red flowers. Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. Flower color: red,pink.
	*Myrica californica* Pacific Wax Myrtle Tall shrub with small evergreen leaves. Height: Up to 15 feet (5 meters) tall. Blooms May, Jun. Flower color: green.
	*Nothochelone nemorosa* Woodland Penstemon Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. Flower color: pink,purple.
	*Nuphar luteum ssp. polysepalum* Yellow Pond-Lily An aquatic water lily with large, round, floating leaves and fleshy, yellow flowers held at the water surface. Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. Flower color: yellow.
	*Oenanthe sarmentosa* Pacific Water Parsley Semi-aquatic, often reclining or scrambling herb, with stem tips ascending or curled and small flat-topped clusters of white flowers. Height: Up to 40 inches (1 meter). Blooms May, Jun, Jul. Tiny flowers in 5-20 compact clusters on 1-3 cm long stalks subtended by 0-few, narrow, leafy bracts; primary color: white, sometimes pink tinged; size: small; shape: compound umbels.
	*Oplopanax horridus* Devil's Club An erect to sprawling shrub with thick, spiny, crooked stems and very large leaves. Height: Up to 10 feet (3 meters). Blooms May, Jun. Arranged in pyramidal clusters to 20 cm long; primary color: greenish-white; flower size: 5-6 mm.
	*Oxalis oregana* Wood Sorrel A delicate herb with clover-like leaves and white to pink flowers, forming carpets in forested areas. Blooms Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep. Flower color: white,pink.
	*Penstemon davidsonii* Davidson's Penstemon Low mat-forming perennial with small evergreen leaves and large blue-purple tubular flowers. Height: 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) tall. Blooms Jun, Jul, Aug. Large blue-purple tubular flowers 1-3 cm long.
	*Penstemon fruticosus* Lowbush Penstemon Spreading shrub with numerous tubular purple flowers. Height: Up to 40 cm (1.5 ft) tall. Blooms Jun, Jul. Large tubular purple flowers are produced in late spring or early summer, in spikes of 3-10 at tops of stems.
